Since, in Genesis 1, God made humans in his image and called us “very good,” does that mean humans are basically good and we’ve emphasized sin too much?
Greg and Amy clarify that being created in God’s image does not mean people are naturally good-hearted or inclined to do what is right. Though fallen people can perform good actions, sin affects their desires, emotions, and wills, making them accountable before God. Recognizing this truth exposes the futility of earning salvation and points us toward God’s mercy and grace.
