What was the point of the Old Covenant if God was going to make the New Covenant?

Greg and Amy explain that the Old Covenant functioned as a preparation for Christ by revealing the seriousness of sin and the need for a true sacrifice. Animal sacrifices could never take away sin but instead pointed forward to Jesus’ once-for-all atonement. This shows that God’s plan of salvation has always been rooted in grace through faith, culminating in Christ.
