Stop Overthinking Prayer! Here’s What Actually Matters.

Description

What difference, if any, is there between a short and to-the-point prayer and a wordy, eloquent prayer if both truly come from the heart?

Greg Koukl and Amy Hall make a distinction between pouring out one’s heart in emotionally engaged prayer and using many words in an effort to compel God to act. Jesus taught that the Father knows our needs before we ask and warned against pagan-style verbosity. Biblical prayers, including the Lord’s Prayer and Peter’s cry, “Lord, save me,” are simple and unadorned, showing that God responds to clear requests rather than polished phrasing. Christians should pray simply, honestly, and in ways consistent with their personality, trusting God’s attentiveness rather than the mechanics of their words.
