Why are so many young Christians converting to Roman Catholicism? Is the Catholic Church really the original, unchanged church established by Jesus? And does Rome teach the same gospel we find in Scripture?

In this episode, Alisa sits down with New Testament scholar and missionary Dr. Clark Bates to examine the growing appeal of Roman Catholicism, particularly among young evangelicals searching for deeper historical roots and a more substantial faith. Drawing from his experience training Protestant pastors in Italy, Clark explores the history of the Reformation in Italy, the Catholic Church’s claims about apostolic succession and church tradition, and the significant theological differences between Roman Catholicism and Protestant Christianity.

They discuss what Rome officially teaches about salvation, grace, the sacraments, and biblical authority, and why familiar Christian terms don't always mean the same thing in Catholic and Protestant theology. They also examine the writings of the early church fathers, the development of Catholic doctrine, and the question of whether Protestantism is disconnected from historic Christianity.

Most importantly, Clark explains why he is a Protestant and offers practical guidance for engaging Catholic friends and family members with biblical truth, clarity, and love.
